OUR HISTORY

Tarquin aerial.jpeg

Tarquin sits atop the appropriately named Hilltop Crescent in Fairlight and enjoys spectacular district and harbour views.  A tall central tower is flanked by two lower towers and a number of townhouses, all set into award-winning gardens across an expansive estate.

Constructed in 1977, the complex was designed by Robert Sheldon AM, who was a practicing architect and director of Robert Stafford Sheldon Architects from 1964 to 1999.  The articulated central tower at Tarquin features alternating floor plans – a design that continues to win attention to this day.

Robert was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2009 Queen's Birthday honours list for service to architecture as a practitioner and administrator, through contributions to a range of professional organisations and to the community.  He passed away on 25 February 2017, aged 86 years.

The sales brochure used to promote the property is a window into the style and character of 1970's "chic".   You can view it here:

MAJOR PROJECTS

Workers Wiping Skyscraper Windows

Since Tarquin was first constructed, its owners have completed several projects to improve its condition, amenity and appearance.  Like so many buildings adjacent the ocean (and positioned atop a prominent hill) Tarquin has needed careful maintenance and upgrades over the years.  Over the years, several projects have been undertaken in relation to painting, repointing, waterproofing and concrete repairs.

The most significant transformations have been since 2015, when multi-million dollar projects have made vast improvements to the property.

2014/2015

Major works were completed to address spalling and related issues with balustrades and balconies across the site.  In a creative collaboration of engineering and design works, old brick and concrete balustrades were replaced with modern glass and metal - creating an aesthetically pleasing and consistent upgrade for all properties

2021/22

All owners signed off on a by-law transferring responsibility for the replacement of maintenance of doors and windows to property owners.  This underpinned the viability of an opt-in project to upgrade doors and windows to the highest of modern standards.

2024/2026

A range of initiatives is being planned to further improve the amenity and appeal of Tarquin.  Owners can review those potential projects
